WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL

Welcome back to a new school year. HeadsUp continues to focus on enrichment, wellness and college support, all with an equity lens. We are excited for our second year of partnering with Youth In Arts, the district, and our elementary PTAs and PTOs to deliver a robust arts enrichment program—providing weekly arts enrichment for every TK-5 student.  In middle school and high school, we continue to fund enrichment, student wellness, grants to teachers, and college access across SRCS. This is all made possible by our generous donors. If you would like to make a donation please click here.

ELEMENTARY ARTS ENRICHMENT

Arts enrichment classes have begun at each of our elementary sites. Students are enjoying music, dance and art taught by our arts partner, Youth in Arts. We look forward to seeing what our students learn and create!

In other news, thanks to the district and prop 28 funds, SRCS now has an Arts, Prep and Support Teacher at each elementary site. This teacher is an integral part of a school campus, integrated into and supporting all grades Tk-5 throughout the week in a number of capacities. The primary role will be to provide support to arts educators (Youth in Arts teaching artists) in every classroom and coordinate the arts experience throughout the school for students, teachers, and families, including performances. Additionally, this teacher will have the opportunity to support the school community in other ways such as small group work, substituting, assessment support and more. While this teacher is supporting the arts enrichment class they are also providing much needed prep time for classroom teachers.

Join Youth in Arts on September 21 for their AGLOW event featuring delicious food, drinks, live and silent auction, games, and performances by Kid Galaga, `Til Dawn, and YIA teaching artists.

COLLEGE CONSULTING SPOTLIGHT - SRHS

It is a very busy time of year for seniors getting ready to apply for college. Be sure to visit the HeadsUp College Consultants in the CCC at each high school. Laura French at San Rafael High and Matt Slavin at Terra Linda High. Both are excellent resources for helping your student! San Rafael High School is now offering College Coffee Chats the first Friday of every month. Be sure to check it out!

WELLNESS CENTER SPOTLIGHT - TLHS

San Rafael City Schools' Wellness Programs would like to thank HeadsUp for helping start off the 23/24 school year! At Terra Linda High School funding supported purchasing new plants for the center, filling the student "Care Cart," replenishing self-regulation activities and art supplies, as well as purchasing new curtains and rods to help increase the privacy for all students utilizing the space! Thank you HeadsUp!

WELCOME SUPERINTENDENT DIAZ GHYSELS

HeadsUp is thrilled to welcome our new Superintendent, Carmen Diaz Ghysels. HeadsUp President, Alicia Klein had this to say: "Carmen understands what makes our school community uncommon and special. She has also expressed that she will place student outcomes and experiences at the center of all we do, a true mark of a quality educational leader. At HeadsUp, we look forward to partnering with her to move forward the work of our district, grounded in our shared values."
