TL Students Turn Civic Learning Into Action

In recognition of National Voter Registration Day on Sept. 15, Terra Linda High School’s AP US Government & Politics students hosted a campus-wide voter registration and pre-registration drive to prepare their peers to participate in the democratic process.

Led by teacher Ashley Sanchez Ayoob, students guided their peers through the process, answered questions and emphasized the importance of civic participation. An impressive 427 completed registration forms were delivered to the Marin County Elections Office for processing.

The project reflects a central goal of the class: moving beyond learning how American government works to empowering students with the knowledge and tools to become informed, engaged participants in their democracy.

Bullying Prevention Month

October is National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month, an important time to reinforce our commitment to creating safe, inclusive and respectful learning environments for all students. Throughout the month, elementary and middle schools are focusing on leading events with resources from the Sandy Hook Promise Foundation.

We encourage you to:
  • Take time for age-appropriate discussions that highlight kindness, respect and inclusion.
  • Remind your children about reporting procedures and available support if they experience or witness bullying.
  • Model positive relationships and reinforce our schools' expectations for behavior.
Attendance Reminder: Short-Term Independent Study Contracts

If your family is expected to be away from school for an extended vacation or family emergency up to 15 school days, please reach out to your school to request a Short-Term Independent Study Contract. This contract includes clear expectations for the student, family, school and teacher regarding independent study for up to 15 days and is aligned with the Education Code. The purpose is to maintain students’ access to education while out of school. Students and families are encouraged to reach out to your school's office for more information.

Emergency Preparedness: Standard Response Protocol

SRCS is dedicated to safeguarding the educational environment. This year, we are implementing the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) across our schools. Our goal is to create a shared approach to safety that strengthens emergency preparedness District-wide. SRP provides a clear, consistent and easy-to-understand approach to responding to a wide range of emergencies, such as fires, severe weather, accidents, intruders and other threats to safety.

There are five specific actions that can be performed during an incident. When communicating these, the action is labeled with a “Term of Art” and is then followed by a “Directive.” Execution of the action is performed by active participants, including students, staff, teachers and first responders. The SRP is based on the following actions: Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate and Shelter.

Safe Routes to School Event a Success

SRCS students joined thousands of others from across Marin to celebrate the International Walk to School Day on Oct. 7 by choosing an active way of transportation.

The annual celebration, Safe Routes to Schools’ biggest event of the year, brought out walking school buses, bike trains, school mascots and plenty of school spirit (pictured: Venetia Valley students arriving to school). Learn more.
