Share Your Input on Budget Reductions:
Survey and Upcoming Sessions

Dear San Rafael City Schools Community,

Last week, we shared information about how the budget outlook for our district is concerning and that we are faced with the reality of having to significantly reduce our spending for next school year. Read the previous communication

We want to hear from you! As we prepare to make difficult choices to manage the many competing demands on our resources, we need your engagement and feedback. We want to work together on solutions that help us maintain high-quality educational opportunities for our students.

Complete Our Brief Survey
We have a brief survey that will serve as a tool to collect input across our greater SRCS community as we move through this process. Please complete this brief survey by 5 pm on Friday, Feb. 16.Additional Input Opportunities
Our SRCS community is invited to learn more and share feedback at these upcoming sessions:
  • Strategic Plan Task Force Info & Input Session: Wednesday, Jan. 31, 6 - 7:30 pm, District Office (310 Nova Albion Way, San Rafael)
  • DELAC (District English Learner Advisory Committee): Thursday, Feb. 8, 6 - 7 pm, Zoom
  • Board of Education Meeting, Public Hearing on Budget Reductions: Monday, Feb. 12, 6 pm, District Office and Zoom
  • Board of Education Meeting, Action on Budget Reductions: Monday, Feb. 26, 6 pm, District Office and Zoom
Spanish interpretation will be provided. All meeting information, including Zoom login links when available, can be found on the District’s Google Community Calendar or at srcs.org; Board meeting agendas with details and Zoom info are also posted here in advance.

We have also been meeting with groups like our Budget Advisory Committees, District Leadership Team, Labor Management Leaders, Superintendent Parent Council and others.

At this time, we potentially have to reduce our budget for next school year by an estimated $3 - 4 million for our Elementary School District (funds our TK-8 grade schools) and approximately $2 million for our High School District (funds our 9-12 grade schools). These numbers represent about 7% of what we budget for our unrestricted expenditures for each district.

Thank you for your partnership as we collaborate together toward better fiscal health while continuing to focus on our educational priorities.

Sincerely,

Carmen Diaz Ghysels
Superintendent
